How MOM Fortification Works
From consultation to custom recipe development, Milkify Medical's workflow is built for care-team transparency and individualized nutrition support.
Consultation
Milkify's medical team speaks with the family, reviews the baby's needs, and collects provider information.
Baseline Milk Analysis
A baseline frozen sample, typically representing 24-hour milk collection, is analyzed to establish composition.
SafeDry™ Processing
Milk remains frozen, is processed contact-free, and each bag remains traceable through the workflow.
Powder Analysis + Recipe Development
Freeze-dried powder is analyzed, and a custom fortification recipe is created using Miris data and the provider-ordered caloric goal.
Family + Provider Support
Instructions and calculations are shared with the care team and family for supervised use.

The Workflow in Detail
Consultation and Intake
The process begins with a consultation where Milkify's medical team — including a neonatologist, neonatal nurse practitioner, and neonatal dietitian — speaks with the family to understand the baby's clinical context, diagnosis, and gestational age. Provider information is collected to ensure transparency and endorsement of the fortification approach.
Baseline Analysis
A baseline milk sample, typically collected over a 24-hour period, is tested using the Miris Human Milk Analyzer. This establishes the composition of the mother's expressed milk — measuring calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates.
Processing and Powder Analysis
Milk is processed using SafeDry™ contact-free technology. The resulting freeze-dried powder is then analyzed on the Miris HMA to determine its caloric density per gram. A custom fortification recipe is developed using both the baseline and powder data, aligned to the provider-ordered caloric goal.
Recipe and Support
The final mixing instructions — including how many tablespoons or grams of powder to add per bottle — are shared with both the family and the medical provider. The Milkify Medical team remains available for follow-up consultations and additional analyses as needed.
