Coverage Resources
Information on insurance, HSA/FSA reimbursement, and documentation to support your coverage requests.
Understanding Coverage
Coverage Is Case-Dependent
Coverage for breast milk freeze-drying services varies by insurance plan and individual circumstances. There is no universal coverage guarantee, and commercial insurance coverage can be difficult to obtain.
HSA/FSA Reimbursement
HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) reimbursement may be a more realistic path for many families. These accounts may cover medically necessary services when supported by appropriate clinical documentation.
Documentation Improves Chances
Clinical documentation — including a Letter of Medical Necessity from the prescribing provider and supporting clinical records — can significantly improve the chances of coverage or reimbursement. The stronger and more detailed the documentation, the better.
Documentation Support
Milkify provides a Letter of Medical Necessity template that your provider can customize. This template includes relevant ICD-10 diagnostic codes, clinical rationale, and supporting evidence to strengthen your coverage request.
